Throughout this semester I have learned more about human trafficking. I have become more aware myself on what is going on around me. We have just recently hung up posters around our town, which give statistics on human trafficking in Michigan. We still have a few more to put up. We hope that these posters will cause people to be aware of their situation and what is going on around them.

This semester, Anna and I accomplished a lot for our project. We got into contact with an organization that benefits and assists women who were caught in human trafficking. We are hoping to raise money to buy items for the women that are a part of the organization we contacted. Along with that, we made posters describing the situations where human trafficking occurs most often and how prevalent human trafficking is in the world. We put a few of these around town, and we hope to put up a few more. We hope that these posters have an impact on the people in our town, and that they become more aware of situations they might be in.
This past week, Anna and I have been working on some informational posters to put up around our school. We are making good progress on them. We have not received any information back from the organization we contacted before, so we are hoping to get in touch with them or possibly find a different organization to work with.
Since our last update, we have continued to work on our informational posters. We have decided to create about 6 different info graphics that feature different statistics and facts about human trafficking. We plan to post these around our community and school to raise awareness. We hope by the end of this project to find a organization that we could give items to or volunteer our time to.
These past few week we have tried to contact a resource in the Muskegon area to see if there is anything we can do to help. My aunt who sits on a human trafficking board in Michigan brought me some very helpful resources to pass out that give good information about human trafficking. Anna and I have also been working on some informational posters to put up around our school to continue to spread awareness.
Since our last blog post we have worked on getting the word out about our project and website. We both posted the link to our website on our Facebook and that was very helpful in getting views on our website. We also began designing our poster that we are going to hang around our school and our community.
We have tried to contact a group called the Hope Network that helps victims of human trafficking. We have emailed them but they have not responded so we are hoping to get involved with helping them or another group. I am a teenage girl from a very small town in Northern Michigan. In our computer class, we were encouraged to think about a world problem that was near to our hearts. For my friend, Anna and I, it was a no brainer- human trafficking was going to be the topic for our website. We have done a lot of research about human trafficking, and during that, we found that females under 18 are the most human trafficked in Michigan, and Anna and I wanted to do something to change that. We understand that human trafficking is not something that can just be stopped by two teenagers, but we think that spreading awareness about human trafficking would help a lot of girls get out of vulnerable situations that they might find themselves in.
I am a high-school student from a small town in Northern Michigan. In our computer/bible class we are doing a project called a 20 time project. This means that each week we take 20% of our time to work on a project or world problem that we are passionate about. My friend and I decided to do human trafficking because after finding out that Michigan was in the top 5 worst states for human trafficking, we thought that people around us should know about these dangers. We are hoping to spread awareness around our community through posters, social media and hopefully through this website. We hope that this encourages young women to take precautions and be aware of this danger and avoid high risk situations. I am very passionate about this project because I want to be able to feel safe where I live and I want others to feel safe as well. |
