Psychological Tactics Used by traffickers
- Dehumanization
- Traffickers tell victims they are worthless, insignificant and forgotten
- Exposed to high levels of emotional stress and psychological abuse
- Made to believe that they cannot survive without their traffickers help
- Loss of identity and low self worth
- Victims may even believe they are at fault for their abusive situations, they were foolish enough to be tricked in the first place
- Distrust of Others
- Traffickers tell victims that most people- even people that are supposed to give help- will report undocumented migrants, resulting in arrest
- To make sure that victims who are undocumented don't talk about their situation to others, they will often go with them to their appointments posing as a family member that needs to "translate"
- Avoiding Physical Abuse
- Even though it may seem positive, they avoid physical abuse to keep their criminal activity under the radar
the 'loverboy' tactic
- For example, a young man might seduce a woman and convince her that he is in love with her. This relationship quickly turns into an emotionally and psychologically abusive one, he forces her into prostitution and other illegal work.
false job advertisements
- They use enticing offers such as a steady and reliable job to lure people who are vulnerable into the hands of those who will exploit them
- Traffickers will sometimes even post legitimate newspapers ads looking for employees further convincing the victims that this is a authentic job
the five p's of abducters

- Someone who pretends to be something he/she is not, such as a boyfriend, sister, friend etc.
